Poor conversion: Check out http://health.usnews.com/health-news/diet-fitness/articles/2009/04/08/fish-oil-supplements-epa-dha-and-ala-does-your-omega-3-source-matter. Bottom line, ALA needs to be converted into EPA & DHA. Unfortunately, humans are very inefficient at doing so, such that it's more efficient to eat fish.
