NO: Thanks to modern anesthesia, the pain of removing an infected tooth is minimal. Untreated infected teeth and gum infection is very painful already, so I would get to an oral surgeon near you as soon as possible

Hang in there: Usually local pain medication such as lidocaine is injected at site to prevent much pain. Some discomfort may occur especially with the injections of lidocaine.
