I have a sprained ankle on my left foot. when i have pain, sometimes i have a burning pain. same ankle was sprained, 20 yrs ago. could it be broken?

Broken vs sprain: Sounds more like a sprain, broken bones are very painful and usually you will have difficulty putting full weight on that joint. I would ice the joint, elevate it when you are able to, to decrease swelling, rest it, and use as needed pain medications. Follow up with your doctor if it persists in it's pain that doesn't feel like a sprain, an x-ray is a quick diagnostic test for this.

X-ray: Impossible to tell without an X-ray at least. The pain will be continuous with fracture, unbearable while weight bearing most of the times. Let your doc know about your worries.
