Not likely...: ... but coincidences do happen. The instruments from a deep cleaning and the forces exerted are not strong enough to break a tooth. The tooth was most likely compromised and would have broken during your next meal. Don't blame the hygienist or dentist.

It is possible: The deep cleaning will only remove bacteria and calculus from the tooth root. However, if you have a serious cracked tooth that goes through the outer layers of tooth enamel and dentin, it is possible..
