Talk to DDS: Often can get topical anesthetic (not injection). Of course tooth sensitivity may be a sign of dental or gum disease.

MI Pate/N2O: In my office we have found a combo that is very effective. We apply mi paste to the roots for 5 min and administer nitrous oxide during the cleaning.
