New formulation: Glumetza is a once daily tablet which is film coated so it is an extended release formulation of metformin, which explains the cost difference vs. metformin which is generic.

Same efficassy: Glumetsa has less gastrointestinal side effects, slower release , better tolerated. If generic Metformin is not bothering you , ther is no sense paying much more for the same glucose control
