A member asked:

My 2 month old doesn't use a pacifier, is she missing out on suckling?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No, usually not: A young baby who is calm and content should be getting enough oral experiences just by feeding every 3 hours or so. If he or she is fussy, then a pacifier can help. If the baby is not fussy between feedings, then a pacifier is usually not needed. Every baby has different temperament at birth, experiences his interactions with the world differently, and soothes differently.
