It's not clear: But studies suggest that whey protein stimulates thermogenesis(calories burned to generate heat) but also alters hormones that control satiety(as in it makes you less hungry). In the end, it won't really accomplish much without a mindful diet bridged with physical activity. Best of luck.

Weight loss: Whey protein in and of itself does not cause you to lose weight. When taken after a heavy workout, it may prevent the loss of lean muscle mass. Exercise combined with a sensible diet and portion control are the most effective means of weight loss.
