Sleeping pills: Your father would be better off if he doesn't rely on sleeping pills every night. They are habit forming and potentially dangerous for elderly people who get up during the night and may be unsteady. Have him try more natural ways to sleep and learn what to avoid in order to fall asleep naturally. Discuss this with his physician.

Less med is best: Sleep is important for all of us, and many seniors sleep poorly, or often nap during the day, so 5-6 hours may be a good rest. If an individual's sleep is more restful with medication, then continuing would be recommended, but if there is no difference, then less is best. Timing with other medication taken can also have an effect.

Insomnia: Hi, it seem your dad might have some kind of Dementia, have you ever been seen by geropsychiatric. I'm wondering why he is on 2 benzodiazepine, Temazepam and Clonazepam? It doesn't make sense to me? Please make sure he gets seen by a Geropsychiatis.
