Lower dose: Temazepam is a generic which also comes in 10 mg pills and 7.5 mg capsules. Discuss a lower dose with your prescribing doctor.

Reduce dosage in cap: That would be a possible solution. However, capsules are designed to avoid gastric irritation. I would suggest to empty about half of the capsule content, take the empty half capsule back (carefully) and take it with water. I understand there are 7.5 mg capsules as well.

Opening capsules: Not a good idea. Drug is not evenly distributed through the powder. Better to switch to a Lower dose capsule, a scored tablet or talk with your MD about why you are having trouble sleeping
