Macrobid: No Macrobid cannot be opened. There is a iquid furadantin (nitrofurantoin) that can be taken instead

No you shouldn't: Macrobid capsules should be swallowed whole and not opened, crushed or chewed. They should be taken with or just after a meal. This helps to minimize any stomach upset that may be caused by the medicine and also helps it to be absorbed.
