A member asked:

If i took macrobid while i was pregnant, did that cause for my newborn to be positive for toxigenic c. diff?

Uncertain: We commonly use Macrobid during pregnancy. This is considered a safe medication. I cannot imagine how this would cause a c. Diff infection in the newborn. This is a question that should be directly asked of the doctors caring for this child.

No: There is no way the intake of Macrobid during pregnancy had anything to do with your kid picking up C.diff after birth. The fetal gut is sterile, and the Macrobid long gone from their system before they start contaminating their gut with germs from the outside. (via oral intake)
