Empathy lacking!: I'm not a neurosurgeon but to say "just deal with it" is a bit callous. Is it causing a headache? Are your your pressures are still okay? Did she explain why the shunt has started to cause pain? Did she suggest the pain might be from something else and suggest a referral? The two of you need to be communicating more effectively but that's her responsibility. Please get back to her.

It's a big surgery: Pain is tough, but replacing a VP shunt is a very big deal, with a lot of risk. Consider a second opinion if the symptoms are unbearable.
