Vp shunt: It is probably a better idea to go to another neurosurgeon or an emergency room for your pain than to even consider breaking your VP shunt. This could potentially cause a lt of complications.

Sorry it hurts!: Joe, I understand and I'm sorry it hurts, really. But we can't give you advice on how to break the shunt! That would be very dangerous for you, and would cause increased pressure in your brain, and might cause infection as well! Please talk to your neurosurgeon again, or to your family doctor.

Why?: If you "break" your shunt you would likely require emergent surgery and be at risk for serious complications including infection. Safer options would be to speak to your surgeon or seek a second opinion.
