A member asked:

I assume either hsv1/2 can be transmitted to child when giving birth/kissing/touching kid in normal every-day situations?

Herpes: Herpes is transmitted from infected skin. Not from uninflected skin. HSV 1 is more commonly found in the oral region. HSV 2 is more commonly found in or on the genitals. I cannot imagine you are touching your genitals to your child. Have you been diagnosed with herpes? With both?

Yes: Genital herpes ( herpes simplex type 2) can be transmitted to a newborn at birth resulting in potentially serious infections. Herpes simplex type 1 is the cold sore and can be transmitted with skin to skin contact like kissing.
