Belief vs. trait: Nihilism, in its essence, is a philosophical belief that nothing can be known. It has variations, depending on the person espousing it. All philosophy can be an excuse for good or bad actions. Pessimism is an individual trait/attitude: a tendency: to believe that the worst will usually occur. One can be an optimistic nihilist though. After not studying, an F makes him happy by proving his theory.
