Tough question: I am not an immunologist, but it's common medical knowledge that pro inflammatory markers are present during systemic inflammatory conditions. They can be non-specific in terms of the underlying disease process. At times they can be very specific when combined with clinical elements such as history and physical findings in diagnosis. Preinflammatory markers may be those found in preterm neonates.

Similar: pro inflammatory mediators cause inflammation and promote inflammation, pre inflammatory mediators are just present before inflammation happens. In most cases both may be the same

Mediators: Inflammatory mediators are the signals that tell your white cells where to throw a punch at infection and then to punch it! The preinflammatory mediators are the cytokines (greek cell, move) interleukins and tumor necrosis factor. The punch comes from pro inflammatory mediators like leukotrienes. These are eicosanoids that produce the inflammation. They cause the tenderness and swelling.
