Infecns cause nodes: Lymph nodes are very common in children. They are usually caused by infection or inflammation. Submandibular nodes, that is lymph glands under the jaws, are usually due to infections in the mouth, throat, teeth or even the face. See your pediatrician to determine the cause. They are not commonly associated with cancer in children. Your doctor will rule out the possibility of cancer.

Submandibular nodes: Submandibular nodes are palpable in children and teens, most often when there is an associated upper resp. illness. Some illnesses will cause them to get very large, such as Mono and Influenza. Enlarged nodes are not commonly associated with cancer in children. Common rule is if a child has a large cervical node that is tender, then it is a reactive node. Worry if is large, growing and painless
