If the remaining tooth is not sound, it might be more cost effective to extract, place an implant, and and then a new crown. In any event, if the tooth has fractured as described, the old crown is now useless.

Best option is: see your dentist for evaluation, x-rays and treatment. Most dentists are committed to helping patients save their natural teeth. However, if a tooth cannot be saved, most of the time a replacement must be planned for to maintain a person’s smile, function and chewing ability.
