Cortical atrophy: Yes. The brain is like a muscle. If we don't use muscles, then they atrophy. Likewise with the brain we need to keep it stimulated with mental and physical exercises. It can be: Most organs change in size during life depending on genetic and environmental factors. THe brain is similar, and thus there are age related estimates on such changes you note.
