I was supposed to have surgery on my right hand because of a ganglion cyst but the mri came back and the cyst is gone but i still have a lot of pain.

You have pain: So, you don't have a cyst. You do have pain. Gather the details of where your pain is, what else occurs with it (such as numbness, with location), what activates the pain and then continue the pursuit of a cause. Is your pain only in your hand or do you have other pains also? If so, where else do you have pain? The number and types of other pain conditions will tell you also about your hand.

It may be arthritis: Ganglion cysts in the hand/wrist are usually due to un underlying injury such as arthritis or ligament tear. The cysts can come and go, which explains your MRI finding. Despite the cyst not being present at this time, you may still need treatment for an underlying injury (treatment of a ganglion involves more than just removing the cyst). You should consult with your hand surgeon about the options
