How effective is vancomycin for treating c.diff? husband has uc. flagyl didn't do it. i am worried.

Very: Vancomycin is the drug of choice for treating C. Diff if Flagyl fails. In fact, it is the only use for the oral form of Vancomycin (it isn't absorbed in the intestine, and so has to be given IV for other conditions). Hope this helps, Carl!

Effective: Unfortunately CDIFF colitis has become a very prevalent disease. The current evidenced based recommendations is to treat initial infections and initial recurrence with Flagyl. Vancomycin is indicated after failure of Flagyl.
