Overbite: an overbite indicates that the chewing teeth may be in a challenged position as well. this means that the teeth may not work together as well over time. at the very least, some type of protection (occlusal guard) should be worn every night. if the lower jaw is set back, the tongue may have a habit of resting in the back of the throat, which could affect the ability to breathe during sleep.

Malfunction: Improperly placed teeth malfunction, causing increased wear and possible joint damage. I've never seen 'just an overbite." Excessive overbite is usually indicative of other occlusal disharmonies. Do yourself a big favor, go see an Orthodontic Specialist for an evaluation.
