SSRI: No medication "gives" suicidal thoughts. People taking SSRI's are often depressed and suicidal. Anxiety levels may change on SSRI medications, but there are SSRI's that are not typically associated with heightened anxiety, some are actually associated with lowering anxiety like Paxil (paroxetine).

FDA aftermath: The FDA's advisory panel warning on SSRI's and suicide sparked enormous controversy, and counter-responses from many medical organizations. Many research papers have carefully and scientifically looked at this issue. For one, completed suicides in children have skyrocketed (300 more per year) since the FDA warning as SSRI prescriptions fell off. Please see a psychiatrist for expert care.
