Keep her away: C dif is an intestinal infection that is difficult to treat. Not all antibiotics will provide a cure - In fact Many may cause it. It can be transmitted by contact after initial infection. Stopping the offending antibiotic ASAP is key. Flagyl (Metronidazole) is the choice for milder cases. Vancomycin is recommended for severe, A "test of cure" is recommended to assure eradication. Avoid Imodium (loperamide)

Yes; hand washing: To answer your first question, yes, c diff is contagious. In regards to your second question, diligent hand washing with SOAP and WATER (not sanitizers) have been shown to reduce the potential of spread.

Follow-up cultures: If follow up stool cultures consistently prove negative for c diff you shouldn't be contagious. Still,remain very diligent about hand washing after your bowel movements. If your baby develops loose bm' s call your pediatrician promptly.

Not likely: You could take Probiotics, available in most drug and health food stores without a prescription, they are "good" bacteria that colonize in the gut and may help keep C. diff. infection from recurring.
