Is the antibiotic cephalexin 500mg 4x/ day safe for someone who suffers from ulcerative colitis or crohns. would it cause flare ups? it was given due to a deep cut. the last thing we want is to mess something related to the colitis?

People with such inflammatory bowel diseases are at increased risk for.c diff.infections which also are more serious for them. I would ask the MD who prescribed the antibiotic if the patient truly needs it. I have been more circumspect in prescribing antibiotics for patients with IBD or who are immunosuppressed.
