Not necessarily: Thick mucus may be due to asthma, various other lung problems, but also due to sinusitis and gastric acid reflux. Codeine may be the culprit in your case along with your reflux. If you are not treated by an asthma specialist, you should see one. In the meantime try to avoid codeine and take good care of your reflux.
