Its a good option: Large fibroids are a common cause of heavy painful bleeding. A hysterectomy removes the fibroids with the uterus and takes away the problem. Its a good option. At age 39, the ovaries are almost always left in place so that you don't need to be on hormone replacement. Other options would be uterine artery embolization, magnetic resonance guided focused ultrasound and endometrial ablation.
