Hello: Hardening of the arteries (arteriosclerosis) refers to disease of the arteries leading to thickening of the artery wall and erosions of the inner lining of the arteries. Arteries are hoses that carry blood (source of fuel and oxygen) from the heart to various organs (brain, kidney, arm leg, liver). Disease leads to obstruction and reduced blood flow.

Vascular Disease: Hardening of the arteries typically refers to cardiovascular disease or calcification. High blood pressure and high cholesterol both contribute to vascular disease along with a number of other factors. You can develop disease in any and all of your arteries.
