If somebody has blocked arteries did they have high cholesterol?

Not necessarily: High cholesterol is only one risk factor. Smoking, diabetes, high blood pressure, genetics, and age are other factors. Low HDL cholesterol (another risk factor) can be present even if total cholesterol is normal. Some people just have bad luck too.
