A member asked:

Why do i experience a very painful gas during menstruation? it is relieved by bowel movement.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

"Party next door": When the uterus starts smooth muscle contractions(cramping) preparing to shed the lining of the womb(endometrium) the intestines are "interrupted" by the "party next door" Peristalsis is smooth muscle contractions in the intestines to move contents from the north entrance to the south exit which can cause "gas" retention. The solution? bowel evacuation!
