A member asked:

When a dry socket heals, does a new blood cot form or do the gums start to grow over the bone?

The blood clot: The blood clot is an important factor in initiating the healing process, and protecting the boney tooth socket. If the gum tissue is sutured to close the tooth extraction site, a blood clot forms quickly and the healing process begins. The soft tissue usually heals itself to the point where it’s not annoying anymore in about 3 weeks. Take care.

Gums grow: The tissue grows over the extraction site. Tissue in the mouth heals and grows very quickly.
