A member asked:

How severe are deep vein thrombi and pulmonary embolisms? also, is it possible for them to move to the heart?

Dvt/pe: deep venous thrombosis(dvt) and pulmonary emboli are similar in nature but different in location. They are both dangerous especially if they propagate to the heart. DVT are usually located in the periphery and PE in the lung. PE can occur from DVT traveling to the lung. If big enough it can obstruct circulation to the heart and other structures in the chest eg. lungs. Can cause death

Deadly: Pulmonary Embolism means the DVT has moved into the heart and lungs. This is an extremely dangerous or deadly situation.
