Fractured Metatarsal: First of all, I assume that you have had the cast for at least 4-6 weeks. Usually it takes this long for a bone fracture to heal. It will continue to be slightly sore and swollen for up to another 2-4 weeks. If the X-rays show that the fracture has healed, you can attempt weight bearing on your foot gradually as tolerated. You should also take anti-inflammatory medications (ibuprofen, naproxen)..

Approximately 6-8 Wk: Most uncomplicated fractures should completely heal by 6 - 8 weeks. If not then there may be complications. Non-union, delayed union, aseptic necrosis or infection.
