A member asked:

76 y/o mother had tia. took bp meds for hypertension. what went wrong? why did stroke occur?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Condolences: I'm sorry to hear about your mother but you're unrealistic to think that anything "went wrong" because, as you know, no one leaves this world in perfect health. Controlling BP can delay onset of illness for many years. Moreover, she may have carotid artery disease - has this been checked with ultrasound? Surgery may be beneficial. How's her cholesterol? Family history? Heart rhythm - atrial fib?
