Sinusitis: Often the pain is due to congestion and you can try using saline irrigation with a Neti-pot, a decongestant (pseudoephedrine, oxymetozaline, etc.), and Ibuprofen for the inflammation. More and more it appears that antibiotics may be unnecessary. Hope this gets better soon. Best wishes.

Culture: We live in an age of what is called evidence based medicine. Therefore there is no best medication for any infectious disease. First, you need an objective diagnosis of acute sinusitis. Then you need a culture of the lateral wall of the nose. If the culture grows out a pathogenic bacteria, the bacteriology lab will give the doctor the answer as to the best antibiotic. Prednisone for the pain.
