Peds Sinusitis: Sounds like a pretty unhappy child, sorry about that. Lots of meds, too. We usually try to manage pediatric sinusitis with medications, like antibiotics and steroids. Can also use saline irrigation or spray in the nose. Further, a landmark study has shown that many children suffer from reflux and by treating, they often can get their sinusitis better. Consider reflux treatment and add saline.

Your child should...: Should be on mucolytic agents and pseudophedrine! in addition irrigation by an ENT should be considered! direct antibiotic and anti fungal therapy directly into sinuses can help.

Check allergies: Chronic nasal obstruction from allergic rhinitis is by far the most likely cause for his chronic sinusitis . Should be checked out for allergies. I assume that cystic fibrosis has been ruled out. An immune study may also be considered if sinus ct showed no anatomical drainage obstruction but the sinusitis continues .Surgery would be the last resort.

Sounds appropriate.: It sound like your child is being treated appropriately. Antiobiotics and corticosteroids are the mainstay of treatment in the acute setting. Mucolytics can also help.
