Jaw Muscle Spasm: Muscle spasm in the jaw joint in front of the ear can cause an earache. Reason Rx does not help is because you probably have a muscle spasm. The relief is to stretch it out - just like no amount of Rx can cure a Charlie-horse in your leg - only stretching it out works. Use moist heat on the side of your face just in front of the ear. When warm, SLOWLY exercise your jaw by taking it forward, then slowly open as far as you can, then slowly close. Repeat until you can open about 3 inches with no pain.
