Does a dental panoramic x-ray show the positioning of the mandibular nerve in the lower jaw for implant planning?

It helps: A panoramic film as well as periapical films are 2D images of a three dimensional object. They can show the distance the nerve is from the crest of bone, and show mesio-distal length of bone, but they cannot show the bucco-lingual thickness of the bone or the position of the nerve in that plane. For that you would need Cone Beam 3D imaging. http://dentalimplants.uchc.edu/3d_imaging/index.html

Not completely: a cpct is needed to fully evaluate the canal

Cone baem CT: is a gold standard for implant preliminary study and planning. Therefore, good preplanning can eliminate issues during surgical placement, mandibular nerve damage and get the predictive value for the treatment. Good luck.

No: X-ray is2dimensional representation of a 3 dimensional object. A CBCT (Cone Beam CAT Scan) allows 360 degree look at the area.
