It helps: A panoramic film as well as periapical films are 2D images of a three dimensional object. They can show the distance the nerve is from the crest of bone, and show mesio-distal length of bone, but they cannot show the bucco-lingual thickness of the bone or the position of the nerve in that plane. Cone baem CT: is a gold standard for implant preliminary study and planning. Therefore, good preplanning can eliminate issues during surgical placement, mandibular nerve damage and get the predictive value for the treatment. Good luck.
