Hygromas: Hygromas associated with confusion and headaches are usually caused by metabolic or toxic problems in the body. Trauma is less likely. Once the problem is corrected then the hygromas resolve spontaneously. Surgery to drain the hygromas is rare unless there is associated subdural bleeding due to a fall from the confusion or encephalopathy. Discuss these findings with a neurosurgeon.
