1 med-large orange: The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Office of Dietary Supplements recommends 75 mg of Vit C per day for an adult woman, 85 mg/day for a pregnant woman & 120 mg/day for a breastfeeding woman. A medium orange has about 70 mg of Vitamin C which very close to the recommended daily allowance for an adult woman. If you are not pregnant or breastfeeding, one medium to large orange should be fine.

Depends on "need": This depends on your definition of "need." As Dr. Brown says, 1 medium orange gives you about the Recommended Daily Intake of 75 mg. However, that is the amount that prevents gross deficiency symptoms in most people but has nothing to do with optimal intake. I believe it's wise to ingest 500 to 2000 mg 2x/day to prevent heart disease and cancer, boost immunity etc. See http://tinyurl.com/z76my3a
