It depends: In general inflammation limited to the gums is caused by bacteria and deposits around the teeth and is rarely treated with antibiotics. If you have an acute condition or infection spreading beyond the gingiva into the bone and causing swelling or acute abscesses or if your have a medical condition then antibiotics could be used as an adjunct to the actual therapy. Talk to your dentist.
