Narcolepsy: Sleep paralysis is one of the most common forms of narcolepsy. Good sleep hygiene is the best way to prevent it. Getting regular sleep and not drinking too much alcohol. Hypnotism may work in a short term way, but this form if suggestion is rarely a long term fix.
