Sleep Paralysis: this may be part of a sleep disorder called narcolepsy. You should see your doctor to be evaluated and considered for a referral with a sleep specialist.

Need Sleep study: The type of sleep disorder which has sleep paralysis as one of its features could be a mild or a typical form of narcolepsy and this would be best studied with polysomnography. The advantage of the polysomnogram would be to record EEG characteristics during the time when you believe the episode of paralysis is occurring.I would not recommend medication until a sleep study were performed.
