Check with PCP: First off, stay away from cough suppressants (like codeine) at that age unless your pediatrician knows about it. Persistent cough in infants and young children may indicate an unrecognized more serious infection, like atypical pneumonia (or sinusitis in an older child). Silent reflux may be a concern, or possibly emerging allergies/asthma. Good luck.

Not normal: Prolonged cough in anyone, least of all an 8mth old requires immediate evaluation by a physician. Any number of things could be the culprit ranging from an allergy to a pulmonary issue. I recommend a visit to the pediatrician as soon as you can. Good health.
