My dr prescribe predcort ds oral solution for my son he is 15 months old with a cold and had fever..1/2 teaspoon twice a day for 7 days...is this safe for him...i started the meds but now am wondering if i should continue cause he now has a cough?

I would never prescribe an oral steroid like this to a kid that age for a cough/cold. Maybe if I found some airway spasm it could be helpful but unless the wheezing was prominent I likely would not. Oral steroids can reduce the immune system strength for a transient time. Only If I found the benefit to exceed the side effects of the drug would i consider using it.

Please provide his weight and the concentration per teaspoon so that we may better advise. If he was on Prednisone already, continue as prescribed. If he has an inflammatory condition, including asthma, the steroid treatment is often effective. Watch for signs of shortness of breath
