In shoulder: The motion you describe irritates the rotator cuff bursa causing your pain. This can mean that you have bursitis, partial rotator cuff tear or a rotator cuff tear. You need to see an Orthopaedic surgeon for an evaluation.

Rotator cuff?: Sounds like you may have injured your rotator cuff, which are the muscles and tendons that move your shoulder. Moist heat to the area, avoid lifting/straining, take Advil or Aleve (naproxen) as directed for pain. If no better in a few days, see a doctor. Good luck!
