nasalcrom, benadryl (diphenhydramine): Nasalcrom spray and Benadryl (diphenhydramine) are also acceptable otc meds for this age. Children are much less often sedated by Benadryl (diphenhydramine) than adults, and sometimes it is more effective than claritin, zyrtec or allegra. Nasalcrom works best if given before a known exposure, like visiting grandma's cat. It also works if used regularly over time, but most little ones balk when you spray their noses.
