5 year old child has runny nose and cough for over 5 days. should i give a cough suppressant or let it run its course? no fever and is acting fine.

Mostly viral: Let it run its course since he is acting normal.Supportive treatment if symptomatic and/or with discomfort . See doctor if condition worsened,not eating, difficulty breathing or with persistent fever not controlled with acetaminophen or ibuprofen .

Cough: If it is not interfering with daily activities or sleep, is better not to use cough suppressants. If the cough is bad, you can use a teaspoon of delsym (dextromethorphan) every 12 hours.
