A member asked:

Can a car accident cause scoliosis?

6 doctors weighed in across 3 answers

Not typically: Scoliosis is commonly defined as an abnormal curvature to the spine, usually related to developmental issues. A single car accident should not produce abnormal curvature in the spine unless it was such a severe accident that you actually fractured the vertebrae of the spine. A minor car accident with whip lash should not produce scoliosis.

No: Scoliosis is lateral, or to the side, curvature of the spine that typically develops in adolescence. It can also be due to congenital abnormalities of the bones in the spine, vertebral bodies, or degenerative, but it does not happen acutely due to trauma
